Following their most successful season in the South West Regional Volleyball League, Truro’s “Kernow” volleyball team of Cornwall have gained entry to Volleyball England’s National Division 3.

The season started in promising fashion with six wins in a row, dropping just four sets all together. There was a minor setback over the Christmas period with injuries impacting heavily on the team, forcing two players out for the remainder of the season.

The team bounced back however, finally closing out the campaign in Wales with two 3-1 victories against Cardiff and Wiltshire to cement Kernow’s first league win.

The trophy was presented at the annual end-of-season tournament in Plymouth. This represented a chance for the young squad to test themselves against higher level opposition, with four national league teams on show.

In the end, Kernow were pipped to a place in the semi-finals by Bristol’s National Division 2 team by a single point. Next season the club will likely be based once again at Truro, but players come from Helston, Camborne, Falmouth, Truro, Perranporth and St Austell.

There will be two teams, with the club’s B team looking to defend the SW regional title as the A team attempts to gain an instant promotion to division 2 of the National League.

The club would welcome any new players that have a background in volleyball, simply to train, or to play for either team depending on your level.

The club are also looking for sponsorship if any local businesses are interested.
